Feb 1-15, 2016 A journalist, writer and documentary film maker, Flock will be working on her narrative nonfiction book on love and marriage in modern Mumbai. The book, which is under contract with HarperCollins and due out in 2017, tells the stories of three Indian married couples whom she has followed over the last eight years. She intends to spend her brief time at Rockland writing a chapter away from her hectic, reporting life in New York and D.C.

Katherine Trimble

Feb 16-29, 2016 Chicago-based cellist, composer and visual artist, Trimble recently relocated to Houston, Texas. This profound change has brought into question how much a place shapes who we are. Bringing some of her recording equipment to set up a mini­studio during the residency, she plans to use her cello and field recordings collected en route to Seattle from Houston to create a short album of songs and sound pieces exploring ideas of place and identity.

March 1-31, 2016 Tovar comes to Seattle from Puebla, Mexico. He is excited to engage with a broader artistic community in dialogue and share new perspectives. Tovar eagerly awaits the opportunity to generate ideas in a completely new environment and bigger city, away from everyday distractions in his current residence.

Carla Bertone

April 1-April 15, 2016 Born in Buenos Aires and currently residing in Berlin, Bertone masterfully constructs her palette and geometric designs, powerfully impacting the space it inhabits with color. Her goal for Rockland is to paint a mural for the Butterfly House on an exterior studio wall. Her mark on Seattle will be bright amongst the cultural gray.

Henriikka Kontimo

Henriikka Kontimo

April 16-May 7, 2016 Kontimo is a Finnish visual artist working across mediums of installation, text, drawing, video, printmaking and performance. Most of her works are site-specific and context-specific, centering around themes of language, communication, the connection of body and mind, and human behavior in a social context. During her residency in Seattle, Kontimo looks forward to an urban setting for her text-based work.
